The Marangu Route is the oldest and most popular trail to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” it is the only path that offers hut accommodations instead of tents, making it a great choice for first-time climbers seeking comfort, a well-marked trail, and a steady ascent to the Roof of Africa.

After breakfast in Moshi or Arusha, drive to Marangu Gate (1,870m) for registration. Begin your trek through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut. Enjoy sightings of blue monkeys and exotic birds.
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: 8 km / 5 miles
Hike out of the forest and into heath and moorland. Stop for lunch at the halfway point and enjoy sweeping views of Mawenzi Peak. Spend the night at Horombo Hut.
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Distance: 12 km / 7.5 miles
This extra day helps with acclimatization. Optional hike to Zebra Rocks or relax at the hut. Great for boosting summit success chances while enjoying incredible views.
Climb past the last water point, crossing the high alpine desert. Arrive at Kibo Hut at the base of the summit trail. Early dinner and rest before the midnight summit push.
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Distance: 10 km / 6 miles
Start your climb at midnight to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Celebrate at the top of Africa, then descend back to Kibo for breakfast and continue down to Horombo Hut.
Trekking Time: 12–14 hours
Distance: 21 km / 13 miles
Descend through moorland and forest back to the park gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer to your hotel for a hot shower and well-earned rest.
