After a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate, begin your trek through the rainforest, where you may spot colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for your first night in the forest.

Ascend from the rainforest into heather and moorland. Enjoy wide views as you approach the Shira Plateau — one of the most dramatic settings on Kilimanjaro.

Today’s hike across the Shira Plateau is gentle and scenic. You’ll continue to acclimatize while enjoying incredible views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding valleys.

Trek further into the alpine zone, passing dramatic ridges and lava formations. Moir Hut is a peaceful and remote campsite nestled below Lent Hills. Optional afternoon acclimatization hike available.

Climb over Pofu Ridge to reach the northern side of the mountain. This section is rarely used by other trekkers, offering a true wilderness experience.

Continue eastward with views toward Kenya’s Amboseli National Park. Cross high alpine desert landscapes and arrive at Third Cave Camp by afternoon.

Climb steadily toward School Hut, the final base before your summit push. Eat early and rest well in preparation for your midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Begin your climb before midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point by sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. Celebrate briefly, then descend to Barafu, have a meal, and continue down to Mweka Camp.

Distance: 21 km / 13 miles
Trek through the rainforest to the gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Return to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved shower and rest.
