🏔️ Rongai Route
The Rongai Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the remote northern side, near the Kenyan border. Known for its quiet trails and drier conditions, it’s a favorite for those seeking a peaceful trek with great wildlife viewing on the lower slopes. This 7-day itinerary allows for excellent acclimatization and a scenic, less crowded journey to the summit.

After a morning drive from Moshi to the Rongai Gate, begin your trek through pine forest and farmland. Enjoy a quiet walk with chances to spot colobus monkeys before reaching Simba Camp.

Climb gradually through moorland with panoramic views of Kibo and the Eastern Icefields. Stop at Second Cave for lunch and overnight stay.

Continue through changing landscapes with short steep sections. Enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak as you reach the sheltered valley at Kikelewa Camp.

Today’s climb is short but steep as you head toward the base of Mawenzi. Camp near a beautiful mountain tarn with dramatic scenery all around.

Trek across the alpine desert to Kibo Hut, located at the base of the summit path. Rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Begin your summit attempt just after midnight. Reach Gillman’s Point for sunrise, then push to Uhuru Peak — the Roof of Africa. Descend back to Kibo for a meal, then continue down to Horombo Hut.

Distance: 22 km / 13.6 miles
Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate, then return to your hotel in Moshi for a warm shower and celebration.
